The World’s Smallest Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot Turns Wi-Fi-enabled Devices into Mobile Internet Tools.

Imagine if you could get online anywhere you liked — in a taxi, on the beach, in a hotel without having to pay the overpriced Wi-Fi fees — without messing around with cellular modems.  What if you had a personal Wi-Fi bubble, a private hot spot that followed you everywhere?!

Developed by Novatel Wireless, the MiFi 2200 lets you create a personal Wi-Fi cloud capable of sharing the reliability and high-speed Internet connectivity of the Verizon Wireless 3G Mobile Broadband network with up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices such as notebooks, netbooks, cameras, gaming devices or portable media/MP3 players.

The MiFi 2200 is small enough to fit in a pocket, measuring 3.5″ x 2.3″ x 0.4″ and weighing 2.05 ounces. It combines a variety of features into its streamlined form factor, including integrated internal CDMA and Wi-Fi antennas, advanced security and authentication technologies. When one device is connected through Wi-Fi, the MiFi 2200’s rechargeable battery provides up to four hours of active use and 40 hours of standby time on a single charge.

In essence, the MiFi converts that cellular Internet signal into an umbrella of Wi-Fi coverage that up to five people can share without suffering any speed problems while downloading.  Cellular wireless routers, have been available for years although if you haven’t heard of this product yet, don’t worry, at present these routers are most popular on Hollywood movie shoots; on-location cast and crew can kill their downtime online, sharing the signal from a single cellular card that’s broadcast via Wi-Fi.

So what’s so amazing?  First, you’re spared the plug-and-unplug ritual of cellular modems. You can leave the MiFi in your pocket, purse or laptop bag; whenever you fire up your laptop, netbook, Wi-Fi camera or game gadget, or wake up your iPhone or iPod Touch, you’re online.

The second huge advantage of the MiFi is that, as with any wireless router, you can share its signal with other people; up to five road warriors can enjoy the same connection. Your family with their iPod Touches in the back of the car could hop online,  or, you and your colleagues could connect and collaborate on a corporate trip.

It’s always exciting when someone invents a new gadget and this one is a jaw-dropper.  All your gadgets can be online at once, wherever you go, without having to plug anything in — no coffee shop required!  Verizon Wireless will introduce the highly-anticipated MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot on 17th May 2009.
